| Directions from Asheville to
Nantahala Mountain Resort Take I-40 West out of Asheville. From the
intersection of I-40 and I-26 travel
18 miles to Exit 27,
Hwy 19/23/74 West,
going towards Atlanta/Cherokee/Waynesville/Bryson City. You will see signs
labeling this highway the "Great Smoky Mountain Expressway". Stay
on this four lane highway for 49 miles - DO NOT
EXIT- . The road will then
become two lanes going into the Nantahala Gorge at the intersection of Hwy
19/74 and Hwy 28 to Fontana. The Highway 19/74 is labeled, "The Scenic
Waters Byway". From here it is approximately 12 miles to the Nantahala
Mountain Resort, passing the Nantahala Outdoor Center and the Nantahala
River Launch Site Park. The entrance to the Nantahala Mountain Resort,
Franklin Branch Road, is 1.4 miles past the Launch site (Wayah Road) on the
left.
This drive is 79 miles from the intersection of I-40 and I-26, approximately 1 1/2 hours and is a beautiful scenic mountain trip through the mountains of Western North Carolina. |
